by Stewart P. Wang
Discovery Pico Laser Tattoo Removal – Pasadena & Inland Empire

Want to get rid of a tattoo you've outgrown? Of all of the methods available to remove or alter a tattoo including lightening creams, excision, surgery, and microdermabrasion, laser tattoo removal is becoming the most popular and effective. But do you know which type of laser offers the best result? Look no further. Wang Plastic Surgery Pasadena offers next-generation Discovery Pico Laser that could de-ink a full spectrum of pigment colors and in less treatment sessions than the traditional Q-switched nanosecond laser.

Laser technology has advanced, and tattoos are no longer permanent. It's no longer painful or difficult to remove large and colorful tattoos. The de-inking process has evolved in recent years, from embarrassing and potentially skin-damaging process to a safer, more sophisticated laser technology. In the past, removing tattoos with light blue and green pigments have been the most challenging with nanosecond laser. The Discovery Pico laser that Dr. Stewart Wang chose treats all tattoo colors and do so precisely and evenly reducing the discomfort and recovery time often associated with laser tattoo removal. Find out how easy it is to de-ink your tattoo regret and request a consultation online or call Wang Plastic Surgery at (888) 360-6688 today to schedule your appointment.

How does Pico Laser tattoo removal work?

Q-Switched lasers have traditionally been the gold standard method used for removing tattoos, and still are, but with the advent of picosecond technology, the treatment was made quicker, and in some cases, more efficient and less painful, depending on the tattoo type.

Unlike the Q-Switched laser treatments that use intensive laser energy to heat up and break the tattoo ink particles into smaller pieces, Discovery Pico lasers offer patients a much gentler and more effective treatment as picosecond laser tattoo removal doesn’t use any heat. It uses photoacoustic effect, ultra-short laser pulses, to shatter the ink particles at very high pressure. The Pico laser fires pulses at a trillionth of a second and shatters the ink into tiny dust particles which can be absorbed much more quickly and easily, and eventually get eliminated by the body.

How many sessions does Pico Laser require to remove my tattoo?

In the past, removing a tattoo can take about 10 to 15 visits, six to eight weeks apart. Now our picosecond laser tattoo removal process in Pasadena only takes an average of 6 to 8 visits, six to eight weeks apart, depending on the area, the colors, how deep the ink is embedded, age of the tattoo and skin tone. The Discovery Pico Plus laser allows stacked treatments, cutting the number of sessions required in half.

Factors which will influence the effectiveness of laser tattoo removal:

  1. Concentration of pigment: If the tattoo pigment density is distributed at the bottom layer of the skin.
  2. Location: If the tattoo is located at the end of the limbs, where the lymphatic circulation is relatively poor, and the color is also difficult to resolve.
  3. Age of Tattoo: If the tattoo is more than one year old, then it’s easier because the pigment has been partially metabolized by the lymphatic circulation.
  4. Color: Due to the different chemical composition of the pigment, the reaction to the laser is also different. Generally, black is the easiest color to remove, red and green are not easy, because these two colors are not easy to absorb laser light.

How long is each laser tattoo removal session and is there any downtime?

Each Discovery Pico laser tattoo removal treatment session may range from 3 to 50 minutes long depending on the size of the tattoo. There is not downtime. However, it’s advised to avoid sun exposure two weeks after laser treatment.

Is the Picosecond laser tattoo removal painful?

Pain sensation and tolerance varies widely between individuals and depends on which part of the body is undergoing treatment. Without any numbing cream or anesthesia applied, most people describe the sensation as having your skin snapped with a rubber band. Of course, our team will do their best to minimize any potential discomfort for our patients.
