Reveal Your Best Skin with Laser Genesis

by Stewart P. Wang
Laser Genesis – Santa Ana, Pasadena, Glendora & Inland Empire

Laser Genesis is a non-invasive, non-ablative laser treatment that utilizes advanced technology to target and improve a range of skin concerns, such as acne, acne scarring, age spots, and reduce pore size. This non-invasive laser facial procedure is revolutionizing the way patients can achieve radiant, youthful-looking skin without the need for surgery or extended downtime.

At the heart of Laser Genesis lies its ingenious mechanism. Unlike conventional facials, which offer limited skin benefits, laser facial operates by gently heating the dermis layer and stimulating collagen production. This helps plump the skin and reduced any look of any wrinkles or lines. The thermal energy of Laser Genesis targets the tiny vessels and capillaries that are the cause of persistent skin redness such as rosacea. By breaking down these vessels, blood that is trapped under the surface of the skin dissipates, which reduces overall redness. This controlled heating initiates a cascade of rejuvenating effects without causing any discomfort or pain during the procedure. Contrary, Laser Genesis is known for its comfort, often described as the feel of basking in the sun on a beautiful summer day.

At Wang Plastic Surgery, we pride ourselves on staying ahead of the curve when it comes to the latest advancements in medical spa treatments. One of the widely loved skin procedures that we offer at our four convenient locations in Pasadena, Glendora, Upland, and Santa Ana is Laser Genesis. Are you tired of dealing with large pores, acne, and acne-related scarring? 5 KEY BENEFITS OF LASER FACIAL TREATMENTS

  1. Reverse Sun Damage
  2. Years of sun exposure can wreak havoc on our skin, leading to a loss of natural elasticity and premature aging. UV rays penetrate deep into the skin, causing damage to skin cells and diminishing the production of essential proteins like collagen and elastin. Laser Genesis treatments offer a solution to reverse sun damage. By stimulating the development of new skin cells in the deeper layers, this procedure helps restore the health, smoothness, and youthfulness of sun-damaged skin.
  3. Restore Skin Tone and Texture
  4. Aging, sun exposure and pigmentation issues can result in uneven skin tone and texture as well. Laser Genesis treatment sessions can help you achieve a smoother, more even complexion, reducing the effects of sun damage and other skin concerns.
  5. Reduce the Effects of Acne Scarring and Other Visible Scars
  6. Laser Genesis is a perfect solution for those dealing with acne problems. It effectively targets issues like rosacea, redness, acne, and acne scars while also preventing future breakouts. This versatile treatment can also diminish the appearance of various scars, including surgical, trauma-related, and burn-related scars.
  7. Diminish the Appearance of Fine Lines and Wrinkles
  8. Bid farewell to troublesome wrinkles and fine lines with Laser Genesis. By reaching deep into the skin layers, these lasers address both deep wrinkles and "expression lines," while also preventing lighter lines from becoming more pronounced over time.
  9. Decrease Pore Size and Rejuvenate Your Skin
  10. As we age, our skin's collagen production naturally decreases, leading to imperfections like sagging and signs of aging. Laser Genesis, a rejuvenating procedure, revitalizes your skin by boosting collagen production and reducing pore size and irregular texture. For those struggling with large pores, Laser Genesis can reduce their appearance by up to 70%. This treatment stimulates collagen production, plumping the skin and helping to fill in pores, resulting in smoother and more vibrant-looking skin.

What is the sensation experienced during the Laser Genesis procedure?

During the Laser Genesis procedure, the laser device resembles a small wand connected to a larger machine. Patients are typically provided with protective goggles, and in certain cases, their hair may be covered. The procedure itself is entirely painless. Patients usually describe a gentle warming sensation on their face, often finding it quite pleasant, akin to the warmth of the sun on their skin.

Which areas of the body can Laser Genesis effectively treat?

While Laser Genesis is most commonly performed on the face and neck, it is a versatile treatment suitable for various body regions. In addition to the face, Laser Genesis is frequently used on areas such as:

  • Neck
  • Shoulders
  • Décolletage (chest area)
  • Hands
  • Other body areas (excluding the eyes and their surrounding areas).

What’s the difference between Laser Genesis and IPL?

Laser Genesis and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) are both popular non-invasive cosmetic procedures used to improve the appearance of the skin, but they work in different ways and are suited to different skin concerns. Here's Wang Plastic Surgery & Med Spa’s breakdown of the key differences between Laser Genesis and IPL:

  1. Technology and Light Source:
    • Laser Genesis: Laser Genesis is a near-infrared (NIR) Nd:YAG laser with a single 1064-nm wavelength of light, targeting the deeper layers of the skin with precision. It delivers micro-pulses of laser energy to stimulate collagen production and promote skin rejuvenation.
    • IPL: IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, uses a broad spectrum of light wavelengths to target various skin issues. It emits multiple wavelengths of light in each pulse, which can be adjusted to target specific skin concerns.
  2. Skin Concerns Addressed:
    • Laser Genesis: Laser Genesis is primarily used for improving skin texture, reducing fine lines and wrinkles, and stimulating collagen production. It's effective for treating conditions like redness, rosacea, and large pores.
    • IPL: IPL is versatile and can address a wide range of skin concerns, including pigmentation issues (like sunspots and freckles), redness, vascular lesions, and hair removal.
  3. Comfort and Sensation:
    • Laser Genesis: Laser Genesis is known for its comfort. Most patients describe the sensation as a mild warming or tingling feeling on the skin, often compared to the sensation of the sun on the skin.
    • IPL: IPL treatments can be slightly more uncomfortable for some individuals. Patients may experience a snapping or stinging sensation during the procedure, which is usually well-tolerated but may require topical numbing cream for sensitive areas.
  4. Downtime and Recovery:
    • Laser Genesis: There is minimal to no downtime associated with Laser Genesis. Patients can typically resume their regular activities immediately after the treatment.
    • IPL: IPL may involve some redness and mild swelling immediately after the procedure, which usually subsides within a few hours to a day. Makeup can be applied to cover any redness.
  5. Number of Sessions:
    • Laser Genesis: A series of multiple sessions (usually 4-6) is often recommended to achieve optimal results, typically scheduled several weeks apart.
    • IPL: The number of IPL sessions required can vary depending on the specific skin concern being treated, with multiple sessions usually needed for the best outcome.

When paired together, IPL + Genesis can improve the skin’s overall texture and tone to reveal the radiant glow you crave. Both Laser Genesis and IPL are effective treatments for skin rejuvenation, but they have different mechanisms of action and are better suited to specific skin concerns. Dr. Wang will make the best recommendation for one or both treatments, depending on your skin type and condition, that suits your individual skin goals.

How long does the laser genesis procedure take and how many treatments will I need?

Laser genesis is often called a “lunch break procedure,” the procedure will only take 30 minutes, and there’s no downtime. There is no need for anesthesia because it is a painless procedure which patients will just feel a gentle warming sensation.

After one session, you will notice your skin looks brighter and more youthful, and your pores look smaller. For best results, you’ll need four to six treatments spaced two to three weeks apart, , depending on the condition of your skin and what you’re looking to address, and you will likely need a maintenance procedure every year.

Are there any risks or side effects to laser genesis?

Laser Genesis is generally a safe and well-tolerated cosmetic procedure, but there are potential risks and side effects to consider. These can include temporary redness, swelling, and skin sensitivity, which typically resolve quickly. Rarely, changes in skin pigmentation or bruising may occur. Scarring is extremely rare. Proper eye protection is essential during the procedure to prevent potential eye damage. Individuals with a history of oral or facial herpes should be aware that Laser Genesis may trigger reactivation.

To prepare for Laser Genesis, make sure to come to your appointment with a fresh clean and dry skin (no makeup). Please refrain from self-tanning or high sun exposure 2 weeks prior and to stop any retinoid, Skin Exfoliant, Salicylic Acid, BHA/AHA, or Benzoyl Peroxide treatment 3 days prior to your appointment.

Patients taking antibiotics or other photosensitizing medications should not be treated due to contraindications. Please disclose the medications you are taking to our team before your treatments begin.

What is the Laser Genesis post-treatment care?

Just as any other laser skin procedures, after the treatment, patients should be gentle with their skin, wear a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher daily and minimize UV exposure. It is advised to stay avoid prolonged or intentional strong sun exposure for a week after the laser to avoid hyper-pigmentation. Sun protective clothing and other physical shields are also recommended to ensure patient’s skin heals in the shortest possible time.
